Senior Research Analyst, Transnational Repression and Migration
Yana joined Freedom House in 2021 and works as a senior research analyst on the Transnational Repression and Migration portfolio. Previously, she researched protest trends and civil society activism in post-Soviet states. She received a PhD in Political Science from the University of British Columbia and was a postdoctoral scholar at Columbia University’s Harriman Institute from 2016 to 2019. Her research findings and analyses have been published in The Guardian, The Washington Post, Huffington Post, Post-Soviet Affairs, Russian Politics, Democratization, Russian Analytical Digest, Moscow Times, Ponars Policy Memos, EurasiaNet, and International Migration.
