Asia-Pacific Programs

Freedom House supports citizens and civil society actors in Asia who are asserting their rights and advocating for a greater say in how they are governed.

Freedom House’s work in and on Asia reflects the recognition that the diversity and dynamism of the region’s political systems present both challenges and opportunities.  Through research and advocacy, we address China’s repressive domestic policies as well as its growing global influence.  In a number of countries across the region we provide short term assistance to human rights defenders and civil society actors when they are threatened by state and non-state actors due to their human rights work. And in several countries we help human rights and other civil society groups to increase their capacity to do effective research, advocacy and coalition building.

Myanmar

Freedom House has been supporting civil society organizations in Myanmar since 2013.  This has included supporting research and advocacy initiatives carried out by CSOs representing ethnic and other marginalized communities. Currently, Freedom House is supporting the efforts of civil society groups and networks to increase public participation in and advocacy on constitutional and legislative reform.

Philippines

Freedom House supports civil society organizations that are working to empower communities to exercise their rights and pursue justice and accountability. Freedom House supports the efforts of civil society groups to conduct research and to engage in effective advocacy.
