Call for Policy Brief Proposals: Impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on media in Armenia
Call for researchers:
Freedom House is seeking a researcher to develop an expert perspective on the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on media in the Armenian context through a well-thought-out policy brief. Taking into consideration the Freedom House report findings on “The Repressive Power of Artificial Intelligence”, researchers are encouraged to propose AI and media-interrelated topics. These could include the role of AI in spreading disinformation, how Al is transforming media, and the impact of AI on the information environment, among other topics. Freedom House will provide necessary support to the researcher throughout the writing process and the final paper will be published by Freedom House and posted on its website.
The policy brief aims to analyze the transformative power of AI, its impact on media and disinformation in Armenia and offer concrete policy recommendations for the government, civil society, and the international community on how to engage with and regulate AI in a way that ensures that civil liberties, freedom of expression and privacy rights while combatting disinformation. The policy brief will be published in both English and Armenian and will help to boost the capacity of civil society organizations and the government to develop and implement evidence-based policies.
Procedure:
To apply for this opportunity, please submit a synopsis of your proposed topic, your CV, and a short, unedited writing sample in English (no more than 800 words) to [email protected] no later than March 18, 2024 with “Armenia policy brief” as the subject line.
The proposed timeline for drafting and finalizing analysis is April–June 2024. The policy brief should be written in English and should not exceed 7-10 pages in length (3000-3500 words). The selected researcher will be asked to deliver a first draft of their thematic analysis by the end of May, and a final draft, with comments integrated, by the end of June.
The brief will be published by Freedom House, with a byline and affiliation of the author. Freedom House will provide an honorarium of $600. The researcher and selected proposal will be identified based on a thorough evaluation conducted by a selection committee. The researcher will be notified by March 27, 2024.

This initiative is part of Freedom House’s ongoing project, “Advancing Democratic Culture in Armenia.” The project creates space for dialogue among civil society, the government, policymakers, journalists, and the public to identify constructive ways to address disinformation and protect democracy and human rights in the Republic of Armenia.
